Altered Jars with Tissue Paper

 Hi everyone, I'm sharing a mixed media project today.

Begin by scrunching tissue paper.

Then use Mod Podge to adhere tissue paper to the jars.

Be sure to allow lots of creases and to show.

Allow the tissue paper to dry complete before proceeding further.

Trim away the excess tissue paper.

Once the jars are dry, the tissue paper has hardened and then use paints to add an amazing affect.

Using assorted paints, dab the paint on rather than painting the jars.

If you don't like any color you used, or want to change a color, dab on some Gesso.

You can also use Gesso to add a subtle effect on the jars.

Wrap and glue some twine around the top of the jars.

Fill with flowers and use as a centerpiece or place in the window.

Etched Mason Jar Centerpieces

Hi everyone.   Today I'm using  etchall® to etch mason jars.  Etchall is a re-usable etching liquid with the consistency of water.  I simply placed my mason jars in a bowl of etchall to create an etched surface.

 

I  placed the mason jars in etchall for approximately 15 minutes.  I then removed them and rinsed them off.  This etched appearance is what I was able to achieve.  

 

 

 

I didn't etch the top portion of each mason jar because I was planning to add a bow to each one.

 

 

Next, I used my Mini Bowdabra to create 4 looped bows from tulle for each mason jar.

 

I filled each mason jar with rocks, wrapped tulle around the flowers and placed them in the jars.  Then I tied the bows around the jars using the bow wire.

 

 2017 stickers were added to each jar.

Sorority Centerpieces

Hi everyone, it's time for some more crafty fun with etchall®.

A college sorority needed some centerpieces for a sorority gathering and I was asked to design the centerpieces.

I die cut the symbols that were needed for the vases from vinyl, then used painters tape to tape off the portion of the glass I did not want to etch. 

 

I covered the area with etching crème and left it to sit for 15 minutes.  As you can see my etching crème is quite dark, but that in no way impacts it's etching ability.

 

After 15 minutes, I scraped the etching crème back into the jar.  After rinsing off the vases, I pulled off the vinyl to reveal the etched symbols.  Since etchall® etching crème is reusable, it can be used for many, many projects. 

 

To finish, I cut Styrofoam to fit in the vases and placed glass beads to hold the Styrofoam in place.  The sorority symbols and flags were then inserted into the Styrofoam.

Look around you and you will find lots of fun glass objects to etch with etchall®.
